Rita, a retired librarian who lived in Los Angeles, bequeathed some of her vintage jewelry to her niece that lives in my city. This lovely niece named Margaret gave the jewelry to me to use in my art works. I promised Margaret that I would celebrate Rita by using the jewelry in a positive way. Rita's backstory is of abuse and difficulty. I felt proud to dedicate this piece celebrating a woman that rose above her horrific childhood. Lady LiberT proves people can always rise above. Lady LiberT represents freedom and hard work that so many sought when they came to Ellis Island. Like the statue, she represents America, and she symbolizes hope. .
