Silenced

$2,550.00

Standing up for what you believe in can be a lonely place. We stand alone while others are silenced and fearful of speaking their truth. If the walls in a classroom could talk, you would hear sounds of violence and physical abuse by students. These students explode on teachers and fellow classmates causing injury and fear.Explosive behaviours have become common place in elementary schools.Teachers are silenced by the professional code and by their superiors.Afraid of repercussions, they suffer in silence doing their best to keep their students safe. Some students become desensitized to the constant interruptions and disruptive behaviour, while others simply cannot learn if their class is repeatedly evacuated to remove them from harm.I taught in many classrooms that required my constant attention to provide a caring and safe environment.I advocated on behalf of my teaching peers by having numerous discussions with premiers, politicians and education ministers.I pleaded with our association to address the rights of teachers and students for safe classrooms.I would not be silenced then and I am not silent now.My most recent piece “Silenced”, is dedicated to teachers that were and remain silent about classroom complexities. They are muzzled from telling the truth. 29”L x 13”W x 9”D.
